Wikipedia I must say does provide great insight of different subjects and topics, There are so many articles of information, I have to say I do love this online library. But as Mr. Sailor says in his article I thought wikis were creatures in Star Wars! "Most of the information that is in Wikipedia is accurate, and much is provided by content experts in each area, but because of the editing freedom a wiki provides, some erroneous information can be posted and represented as fact when it is not".
This freedom which allows other users to add information is essential in the development of the website. Regardless of that you always should make sure your sources are accurate when quoting from Wikipedia. In a graduate school setting, some professors are disallowing the information. Our society has become so microwaveable in how it wants results immediately, that Wikipedia is just providing the platform for quick information on the run. This trend goes in line with how the "always on" generation wants everything rushed instead of actually checking a source and learning the information thoroughly. I can't knock Wikipedia too much, as I am guilty of using this tool as well, but I make sure most of the time I check another source to compare with what I have learned.
